My Way n°3

Reset vs Enunciation, by Marie Brémond

“A little bit of a professional nudge [...] in order to go head to head with life’s uncertainties” (1), such is the all-pervasive bullyboy tactic of Maggie de Block, the Belgian minister for health. Her law, which seeks to regulate the mental professions, as well as boost productivity, aims to get the recalcitrant back in the saddle: a reset for so called ‘front-line’ symptoms, in five reimbursable sessions. Ah sure, for the most part, would they not just be mild? Would forcing people to enter into certified evidence-based programs, which might “normalise” their symptom, not just risk forcing their silence? We are not unaware of the sometimes violent and deleterious side-effects of these programs.

If the silence of the subject goes hand in hand with current mental health policy, then psychoanalysis, as Jacques-Alain Miller has emphasised, places the enunciation of the subject in centre stage: ‘The difference and perhaps the paradox from this point of view resides in the fact that psychoanalysis is a treatment which is directed to the subject of right as such, to a subject of full rights. [...] It is the subject of the enunciation. [...] It is the subject who can see that he has said something but does not know why, or does not believe what he has said, or who knows that it is a joke, or thinks the contrary of what he says. It is the subject capable of judging what he says and what he does.” (2)

This newsletter shares with you the very non-standard enunciation of each one responsible for the various rubrics of the PIPOL 8 Blog: My Way, Stronger than All, Language and Literature, Outside-the Box, Norms and Casuistry, but also that thunderous initiative of the collective of Belgian practitioners of the speech act: COPEL-COBES.
